Clare is writer, actor, and shadow puppeteer. She made her theatrical debut in Deborah Oswald's Stories in The Dark in 2007 with ATYP, which was the first time she combined her loves of folktales, puppetry, and theatre. Since then she has worked with companies such as Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, WAYTCo, and Barking Gecko as a performer, educator, director, and puppeteer. Clare has previously performed her shadow play and storytelling shows at The State Library of NSW, NSW Writers Centre, and for The Leichhardt Espresso Chorus with their commissioned piece in 2013 based on Aesop’s Fables.
In 2017 she received 2nd Place in the Black Swan Emerging Writers Program, with her her play for the program Heed The Spark.
Her recent work includes West of The Moon, a children's shadow puppetry show performed at Summer Nights in 2017, Curbside, a large scale puppetry work with young performers for WAYTCo, and Rusalka a short solo performance and shadow animation in 600 Seconds 2016. Clare is currently a member of the First Hand Program at Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, developing a work inspired by her family history and Italian fairy tales.
She recently completed her training in shadow puppetry at the International Shadow Puppetry Theatre in Bamberg, Germany, run by Norbert Götz.
Clare is also a writer and presenter of Singing Bones, a podcast that explores the histories of folktales.
Originally from Sydney, Clare is currently based in Fremantle Western Australia, where she is learning how to be a mermaid.
